G’day Zedgends! This morning on Radio Reversal we’re returning to one of our favourite topics to rant about – the state government’s imaginary “youth crime crisis,” the “Adult Crime, Adult Time” laws, and the creeping carceral expansion that we’re watching unfold in the present moment under an electoral mandate of “community safety.”

We are thrilled to be joined in the studio this morning by CJ from 4zzz’s long running prisoner support program Locked In. We’re chatting to CJ about some work she’s been doing to develop a searchable database of media reporting on the (imaginary) “youth crime crisis” here in Queensland, to better understand the media’s role in constructing the moral panic about youth crime that has served as the basis for this year’s series of dystopian law reforms, including the expansion of police search powers under “Jack’s Laws”, the expansion of the Adult Crime, Adult Time legislation to include a total of 33 offences, and the recent proposal to re-criminalise public drunkenness and public urination.
